The checking booth has disappeared, a bulldozer is smoothing the ground and soon the gate in the fence will be sealed. Closing the gate means a walk of 2 kilometres for Ras Hamis residents to the big checkpoint the Anat/Shufat CP. The village committee is requesting transportation for 300 of the village children from the municipality.

Hundreds of pupils gather in the parking lot waiting for their buses. The children gather on the road, which is dangerous but there are six supervisors in charge and the atmosphere is good. The buses go through a special lane and their passengers aren’t inspected. There are almost no shelters when it rains, and some of the existing shelters are broken.

The road that leads to the Shu'fat checkpoint which was inaugurated a few days ago disconnects the residents of the refugee camp from the center of their lives. It separates family members, employees from their place of work, patients from clinics, children from educational institutions and restricts the free movement of tens of thousands of human beings.

A protest was supposed to be held on Hanukkah. But the long arm of the conqueror was quicker than the protest leaders, and in the middle of night it visited tens of houses and only at morning was it known that thirty five men were arrested. In the absence of the protest leaders, children and teenagers took their places.
