Seven o'clock at the CP. A laborer who arrived at the revolving gate at 06:50 came through at 07:30 – forty minutes. He exited on the Israeli side at 09:05. He’d waited another hour and thirty-five minutes in the fenced corridor. A total of two hours and a quarter.

A varied crowd congregates at the “humanitarian” gate. Laborers also try their luck there; if they don’t get through they’re stuck and have no way to extricate from the congestion. It’s impossible for old people who have difficulty standing, for the ill and for infants to handle this line.

"I pulled Sharif out of school… I need an additional person to help me provide for the family, there are ten of us at home… My eldest daughter is at the university, she really struggled this year r because she didn't have a computer. Today, even in the young kids' classes they need a computer. But how am I going to get one? Perhaps, Inshallah, next year I'll send Shraif back to school… Since morning and up until now we've (me and my son Sharif) earned only twenty Shekels. How can anyone live like this?............" Along the separation wall there is another parallel separation wall (shorter than the first) with an open gate at the center. It is through this gate that women who did not meet the age requirement for crossing to Jerusalem during the month of Ramadan were sent back.
