Hanevi'im st., Damascus gate, Sunday
morning, 21.7.03 Observers: RY, BS, D, LY 6:45 No checking at
Hanevi'im St., so we continued towards the gate. No soldiers there,
either. No soldier at the "window". The impression was
that things are calmer. Two soldiers were standing near the gas
station. No detaineesinfo-icon. Minutes later they stopped a transit and
checked passengers' IDs. Not long after they were released. The
checking of transits seems to be done randomly. Two young man that
were working at another gas station across the street said that
this has been the situation in the past year. People are often
detained, and sometimes it can take hours until they are released.
The line at the office of Ministry of the Interior was long, as
usual.
