Ar-Ram, 6:30 am. Thin pedestrian
traffic and a quick flow of vehicles. Two men in plainclothes
arrive to set up a computer. On our way to Qalandya, a dearth of
taxis, which are now turning around and picking up passengers even
farther down the road.

Qalandya south. Loud and active vendors among the concrete slabs,
with several soldiers posted on the boulders above.

Qalandya north. Two older volunteers and several young soldiers
letting the sparse traffic of pedestrians through.

Tora Bora: Soldiers were gathered, waiting. No checkpoint at
Jaba’a, and a coffee vendor told us things were quiet.
