Qalandiya
Summary: Soldiers determined to make
Palestinians' life as miserable as possible. We do not remember
such a concentration of oppressive measures as those used today.
Yellow cubs (Palestinian plates) were hunted and forced to move to
Ramallah. Huge human hunts at Tora Bora yielded about 20 detainees.
There was an emphasis on punishing: detainees waited for 5 hrs for
their IDs, were put into a crouching position facing a cement wall,
and two men were put into a hot stinking iron isolation box.
Students (16-17 years old) were prevented from returning to their
Jericho boarding school, for lack of permits. "Falsified
" documents were confiscated. A female soldier explained that
Palestinians use "falsified" documents, and soldiers can
tell by special printed guides. We help a young girl get her
document back, an authentic document, very important. A blond
female soldier was disgusting, nothing specific though. One of
soldiers was very eager to shout at detained Palestinians and to
make them crouch. The only human person there was a 27 years old
woman volunteer with a strong Russian accent. She had compassion
and patience to deal with humanitarian problems.
