Abu Dis and Wadi NarMon. 20 December 2004 PMObservers: Judy O.S., Ronit S. & Noa Y. (reporting) General: No special incidents during this shift.Abu Dis, the Monastery – People are continuing to go through the monastery. Taxis were allowed across. We couldn’t understand where the taxi-site is located. Can someone who does know tell us exactly where it is? There were two jeeps, with soldiers checking papers. The downhill path (facing the monastery) has been blocked by stones. I asked if it is opened, when people can cross and so on, but the Border Police soldier refused to answer.A woman told us that when people are caught crossing by the hotel, (she said ”when they go down”) they are beaten up. We walked up to the Hotel, but didn’t see anything – the barbed wire surrounding it prevented us from entering. The security men who are guarding the settler home drove by like maniacs, ignoring an elderly woman pedestrian who was hit by a stone as their vehicle rushed past. The Container – Very little traffic. Pedestrians’ papers were being checked, but not across the board. Cars crossed through quickly, some without being checked at all.Anata – It was dark. Two jeeps were parked on a mound, and nearby were two soldiers with weapons at the ready. Otherwise, everything seemed the same. There were no lines, and pedestrians were checked perfunctorily.
