South Hebron, wednesday morning, 29/12/04Observers: Ela and Snunit (reporting)Arrived to take the Cancer patient girl, Hiam, and her father, from Ziff intersection. On the way he told us some details on the treatment: She still has to go through 8 more, andher situation is improoving. On our way to Tarkumia, we saw that the gatesinfo-icon in Dura el Fawer and in the Sheep intersection were open. So was the Halhul bridge over Hebron. On the roads we saw quite a busy traffic of Palestinian vehicles. But also many Army vehicles, Hamers and Jips. You can feel the Army presence even when it is quiet. We entered into the Girls' school in Shiuch Shair and talked to the Headmaster. She toled us thar the last 3 monthes there is relatively peace and quiet with not many problems. In the past, she says, soldiers would block the way and enable the girls to come to school, or there would be gun shots that frightened the girls. Lately the situation has improoved. Even when there is a road blockage, the soldiers let the Teachers and students to go by. They know the Headmaster and ask her to identify Teachers and Students. She is optimistic. All and all we had a quiet morning....
