E-Ram: Not much traffic of either pedestrians or cars. Two women (Bedouins) one with a babe in arms and 10ish years old boys, are refused passage. They want to go to Mukassad with the children who do not have permits. The "commander" of the checkpoint is extremely rude to them, the women gave up immediately. We reprimand the officer and chase after the women in an attempt to help them. The women thanked us but declined. The officer gives his name as Pinni Wallerstein, but we doubt it (it is the name of one of the settler leaders). Shimon from BP who is in charge of E-Ram is hardly willing to listen to our complaint.Qalandya: A young Bir Zeit student tells us that yesterday there was aquiet demonstration in Surda. The army used shock grenades, tear gas and even live bullets. Nobody was hurt but two young men were blindfolded and taken on the jeep, accused of having bitten a soldier... As we were ending the conversation with her, a middle age passerby urged us to go to Surda, claiming bad things were happening there.Qalandya south: No line. An older volunteer wondered who we were and congratulated us.Qalandya north: Crowded, but the line moved quite swiftly and the soldiers were efficient and cordial.
