Morning

5:00-6:40 A short morning

We arrived at 5:00, when the pens were already empty. The regular policeman did not show up but the soldiers were checking efficiently and the lines were advancing. Possibly, there were fewer people here today.

Despite the lines (and we had called the moked at 6:15) the Matak officer did not show up to open the humanitarian gate until 6:30. By then, all those waiting joined the lines passing through the pens. At 6:30 a woman with a babyinfo-icon carriage indicated to the soldier on guard the need to use the humanitarian gate and the regular policeman did show up to open the gate for her. Shortly thereafter the Matak officer showed up and enabled a lone woman to get through. It was already too late for some two families who were crossing through via the pens.

Attached is a photo showing the result of the decision to inactivate the humanitarian gate. How can that step alleviate the conflict - short- or long-term?
