M. has found an old mattress and wants to bring it home. M., who has already encountered problems with bringing items through the CP. is optimistic because there are now new soldiers here who might let him bring the mattress. He asks us to photograph the mattress and that we share the photographs with everyone so that people can see what he is not allowed to bring through the CP. The mattress was not allowed across. The policewoman explained that there are things that people are permitted to bring, but mattresses are not permitted. The soldier explained that he would like to allow M. to bring the mattress through, but that there are rules and he has to follow them.

A dense fog conceals A’anin village beyond the CP. A man (in the white shirt) is turned back. He said that, by mistake, he had brought last year’s permit. The soldiers called the DCO, at his request, and were told he didn’t have a valid permit. So he called his brother who brought the updated permit, and he was able to cross ??!!

Last Monday a resident of Anin was not allowed to pass 15 yellow plastic containers because it is a commercial quantity. He had to hide them in bushes nearby. This morning he was allowed but he found only 3. Who’ll return the others to him? Who’ll cover the cost of the theft? Why it was forbidden on Monday and permitted on Thursday? What was the question?

A small group of Palestinians wait to cross the checkpoint. The number of people coming through this agricultural checkpoint, (serving the residents of Anin who have been cut off from their lands by the separation fence), keeps declining. The majority do not get permits to cross the checkpoint, and those who did get a permit can cross here only twice a week between 07.00am to 15.30pm. Their lands and groves are neglected or abandoned, thereby making them even poorer, and even more frustrated.
