Jubara
14:00 - At the checkpoint on the border we stopped to ask that the
gate be opened. While waiting we heard shoutings from a distant
building. Yael claims that she saw a policeman hitting someone. The
person being beaten was the one who was shouting. When we tried to
approach, the soldier who was about to open the gate for us warned us
that he did not have time to wait and that if we did not exit
immediately he would not open the gate again. We gave up and exited.

14:40 - When we exited Jubara towards the border checkpoint we counted 26 vehicles waiting to go through to Israel.

14:10 - The 'Children's' gate is calm. There are four soliders and
one of them is writing down the details of a Palestinian leaving the
village.

Ar-ras
14:20 - The checkpoint commander is stressed. A sergeant (an
Ethiopian) receives us stiffly. He does not return our greeting. When
we want to ask something he signals to us to stand aside at a distance
until he has the time to answer. There is hardly any traffic.
Occasionally one vehicle passes through. Whoever comes from Tulkarm is
stopped for inspection, inclluding a car boot inspection. We tried
flattery and complimented the commander on the clealiness of the
checkpoint's area. It did not help. The commander, obviously stressed,
is not free to attend us and so we leave.

Anabta
15:00 - Vehicles entering Tulkarm are not checked. Those
leaving are subjected to random inspection. For a change the commander
was very polite and agreed to answer our questions. We received a
thought-provoking compliment- according to him we differed from the
rest of the 'Watch women' he had met previously, who had treated them
[the soldiers] with hostility.

Qalqiliya
17:30 - We counted 24 vehicles waiting at the entrance to the town, out of which only two bore an Israeli number plate.
