אחה"צ
There was not much to report from Qalandiya yesterday afternoon.  There was very little pedestrian traffic, lines were short or non-existent (except just before 5 PM when both of the active passageways stopped functioning, but only for a short interval).  Sanitary conditions at the CP are abominableWaiting Area in Qalandiya CP.  I have never seen a public place in such a disgustingly gross condition.  So I think I was mistaken in last week's report when I said that this CP functions acceptably only when there are very few people.  Conditions at this CP are generally sub-standard and are really a disgrace to the State of Israel.
From about noon, we were on the phone several times with the brother of one of the two elderly women from Gaza about whom we have been writing.  The long awaited request from Gaza finally arrived, and the two were supposed to come to the DCO at Qalandiya CP to receive the permits allowing them to return home.  The brother arrived early in the morning to pick up the papers and continued to wait until past 1 PM (about 4 hours).  (We tried to help by phoning the DCO representative who said he would instruct his soldiers to call the brother into the office, but nothing happened.  Notably the DCO representative also refused to give his name after I identified myself and asked to know with whom I was speaking.)
A little after 4 PM a young woman waited at the gate for the DCO offices.  She was holding a tiny sick little babyinfo-icon, covered in a rash, in her arms.  We asked the soldiers in the aquarium to let her enter the DCO offices to get a permit to take the baby to hospital and they quickly complied.
A correction to last week's description of Lil/Jabba CP:  At present there are 4 booths on the road, two on each lane.
