Morning
Etzion DCL: And they make'm wait, 'fore they open the gate.

Etzion DCL

10:30-12:00

There were more cars in the parking lot than we have seen in a long time.

In the hall 10 people were waiting for what they said was twenty minutes already.  When 10 more minutes elapsed and the gate was still closed, Shlomit sent a message to Asaf and after about five minutes everyone went through.

Two people were still waiting for their sons who have been summoned by telephone calls. They did not know why.  They were given Sylvia's contact details and told to pass them on to others in their village.

A young man who had been called in by the Shabak had been told by his lawyer that there were no more charges against him and, though he was told at the DCO  that this was not so, had also been assured by the lawyer that he would check this out for him again next week. He had me speak with his sister who speaks very good English and so I did, explaining it to her again, telling her that if the problem was not solved, she should contact Sylvia.

Shlomit reported that anyone who was a member of Kupat Cholim could get vaccinated free of charge and non-members who are under 60 can pay 170 shekel to get the vaccination and we reported this to the two traders from last week. The young man asked if he could then be sure that they would get the permit to enter Israel. We said that we could not make such promises and that after they had taken the first steps they should again approach the Palestinian Authority and the DCO. Shlomiet added that at least they would not get sick.

A lady who spoke excellent English said that she had been married to an Israeli Arab who had died. She has a permit to be in Israel. She has a daughter with special needs. She pays all her taxes and speaks very highly of the treatment that she has received in Israel. She wants to get a driving license but has been refused. The excuse is ridiculous. She has been told that the public transport in Jerusalem is excellent and there is no reason for her to get a driving license. We suggested that she approach the PA and try to do it through them.

A man who applied to several contractors for a job received a reply from only one of them who then put him down as part of the quota, making it impossible for him to apply to anyone else. We of course referred him to the one and only Sylvia. How nice that we can always pass the buck to her.

Shlomit was told that it is now easier to buy a permit but the price has gone up. 2500 shekel. One wonders who gets the commission from these sales.
