Natanya Ginsburg, Chana Stein (reporting)

An unusually quiet morning at Qalandiya.

05.30.  We arrived to find the turnstiles open with a small but steady stream of workers passing through quickly.  The beigel-seller was very pleased, and said that yesterday had also been quiet, but had no explanation for the unusual conditions. The tea kiosk was shut.

Apart from the soldier in the booth, in charge of the turnstiles, there was no sign of soldiers, police, or guards. The humanitarian gate was closed, and indeed there was no need for it.

06.30. We left.
