Morning

06:50 – 07:20 – Tura Shaked Checkpoint

We arrived early in order to observe the opening of the checkpoint.  People are already waiting in front of the closed checkpoint on the West Bank side.  The soldiers arrived at 06:55 and the checkpoint opened on time.    Pedestrians and vehicles crossed without delay.

A man asked us to come and see the demolition of the charcoal factories which he claims provide work for thousands of people.   This is a controversial issue and things look different from both sides of the issue.

07:30 – 08:00 – Reihan – Barta'a Checkpoint

The checkpoint is open and it is a busy hour of the day.  There are four windows operating and we noted that it took two people 10 – 15 minutes to cross.  One person complained about "the machine" – evidently the X-ray machine, but others told us that everything was "operating smoothly".   Today there seemed to be relatively few people here and at Tura, perhaps due to the fact that there is cold wintery weather and it is Saturday.
