Afternoon

15:00 – Tura – Shaked Checkpoint

We drove to the checkpoint via Katzir and saw that the new road was now finished.  We saw that there was a dog with the soldiers at the checkpoint.  A car and three people crossed and everything was quiet.  The car crossed quickly as compared to previous times.

15:30 – Yaabed Dotan Checkpoint

Four women soldiers and four men from the Kedem Brigade from the Home Front Command operated the checkpoint.  The security has been increased because of recent events here.

Crossing took place in a quiet and orderly manner.  One of the drivers stopped near Ruthi and said that one of the woman soldiers said that she should be shot in the foot. When we asked the soldiers if they had heard someone say that, they denied it.  At one point, the commander intervened and told the soldiers to go back to work.

16:15 – Barta'a – Reihan Checkpoint

There were not many people crossing due to the heavy rains that prevented people from going to work.

I cannot stop thinking about the new facilities that have been put up here for people to cross.  It looks inhuman and reminds me of a prison or something worse.   I fail to understand the objective of a facility that is so inhumane.  On our way out we heard singing by a Palestinian singer who was asking for a permit to work in the seamline zone.   We passed his request on to Elia.

17:00. We ended the shift and returned home.
