Qalandia - quick and easy passage

A Normative Shift

We arrived at 6:15, greeted and spoke with the begale seller, stood at the entrance to the checkpoint for an hour (until the flow of newcomers subsided), various people wished us a good morning, no one asked for help, and the passage through was swift and without incident.

At the end of the shift, after leaving the checkpoint, we stopped to speak with a number of people about their impressions of the new, improved checkpoint.  For the most part they were pleased with the new technology that greatly shortens the time it takes to transit the checkpoint but pointed out that they would prefer there be no checkpoint at all.
