Morning

The Palestinian Jordan Valley is more beautiful than ever. Greenery manages to cover some of the browns and grays, the grass enjoys the pure air, and the sheep let it grow freely. Apparently it’s not to their liking.

It’s very cold.

Every grazing ground has two volunteers from Haifa who came to accompany the Palestinian shepherds today. The Jewish settler-colonists have sown enough fear so that the Israeli Taayush volunteers are doubling their efforts and thus many shepherd communities are enjoying their presence and taking to pasture. We visited three communities. In all of them, shepherds went out accompanied by Israelis.

It was a quiet day all around.

We learned to arrive fast before the army decides that our car is parked somewhere for no reason. We learned the secrets of the local stone oven, fed the flock, celebrated a birthday, and told ourselves that this is what life here should look like. Peaceful, happy, loving.
