Morning

Whether because of the forthcoming festival (Id al Adha) of the sacrifice* or not. the Meitar checkpoint was even more than usually busy for a Sunday, as was Route 60 (I kept my eyes closed!) and most of the entrances to villages and towns were closed off by checkpoints and soldiers: SamiyaAbda, Al Fuwwar, the sheep crossing (which of course leads to the large
city of Yatta). On Route 317 the village of Zif and one of the entrances to Tuwani were blocked by the military, also the dirt track that leads to Sussiya, where our friend Azzam told us that a new (illegal) outpost was being established at Jewish Sussiya, we noted signs of activity there. Also at Jewish Sussiya a large tract of land has long been in preparation for
building, presumably for the expansion of the existing settlement. We'll keep track of developments. Meanwhile, let's hope that the festival passes peacefully.

*In Islamic tradition Abraham was ordered to sacrifice Ishmael, not Isaac.
