Morning

 10.30 -12.00

As happened last week when we were at Etzyon DCO,  we sat idle. Many good mornings, a few curious glances. But it was a holiday and there is the Corona-virus. And of course just as we were preparing to go - two men arrived.

One of them  is blacklisted. I wanted to give him Sylvia’s details. He said he had them. I asked whether he had contacted her. No, he had not. Why not, I asked? A shrug. I gently suggested that instead of coming back to the DCO every time, he should phone Sylvia. I wanted to tell him how a man complained that he had never won anything in the lottery. When asked how often he bought a ticket, he said he had never bought one.

A father arrived with his 28- year old son who had just married, wishing to get him some work. We explained that only men over 35 were issued work permits. But his complaint was that after three months there was no entry in the computer that the young man was married. Shlomit phoned  N.,  our ever-helpful official, who said that the problem was that there was no coordination with the PA.

Shlomit met with a friend, M., who told her that he had been offered a job in Israel by a private person. He has an entry permit. When he got to the man’s house, he was told the man had no money and therefore no job and even refused to pay the costs of the journey. Shlomit phoned him and he made all sorts of excuses, that M. was only coming to check out the situation. M. said that he would never have come all the way if he had not been sure of getting work. Then the man said, “How could M. have entered with all the checkpoints being closed?” Shlomit told him this was not the case. If he thought that all the checkpoints were closed why had he offered him a job. Then he said that M. could not have entered without a permit. In which case why had he offered him a job? But M. does work legally in Israel. Shlomit told him that the High Holidays are coming up and that maybe he should think of repenting for his behavior.
