Morning

Hagit Bak with Mohammad (report and photos)

It’s the eve of Id Al Fitr (the holiday that terminates the Ramadan month fast), and there’s tension in the air. Palestinian we met at Meitar Checkpoint returned home for the holiday knowing that they will lose several days of work this month because of the closureinfo-icon imposed by Israel. The Israeli army is now fastidiously guarding the former breaches in the Separation Barrier and has added barbed wire and another fence, and placed its soldiers wherever the breaches were opened.

The unemployment and lack of livelihood will surely lead to more violence. We must begin to talk.

In Hebron we meet Zaidan Sharabati who says that in general this Ramadan month passed relatively well with the colonists. He is irked by the flyover of the Israeli air force over Kiryat Arba colony planned for Independence Day.

“…And for the glory of the State of Israel” (words uttered for generations by one and all here) – I cannot, will not identify with these words until we see an end to Israeli occupation.
