Summary:  Heavy vehicle traffic but light pedestrian traffic.  It seems that the rubbish has been removed from the area and the flower beds around the roadblock fences have disappeared.

6:30 a.m.

Hamdan hasn't arrived.

6:40 a.m.

We phoned Hamdan who said he was told there is no shift.  He promised to come within half an hour, we wait.

7:15 a.m.

We started on our way.


The entrance to Marda: open.


The entrance to Beita:  there is a Border Police jeep parked at the roadside, there are no detaineesinfo-icon.


Sha'ar Shomron

7:30 a.m. 

There are no problems at the entrance.

 

Za'atra Junction

7:50 a.m. 

Two checkpoints are open from the direction of Nablus.

There are 8 cars at the junction and one lorry - no inspections.

 

Huwwara

8:00 a.m. 

At the car roadblock 20 cars queue to leave Nablus. 

Two checkpoints are open and within 5 minutes 6 cars crossed.

Hassan from the DCO came over to us.

8:15 a.m.

A trailer with concrete blocks arrives; the roadblock is closed in both directions.

8:30 a.m.

10 cars queue to enter Nablus, at the exit from Nablus there are 30 cars in the queue.  The roadblock is opened in the direction of Nablus and the traffic flows including lorries.  Vehicles with Israeli number plates are not permitted to enter.

8:39 a.m.

A checkpoint is opened at the exit from Nablus; there are 32 cars in the queue.

8:43 a.m.

A second checkpoint at the exit from Nablus is opened.

8:45 a.m.

The bus we monitored from 8:00 a.m. gave up and turned back.  A minibus we monitored from 8:00 a.m. crossed the roadblock at 9:07 a.m.

9:08 a.m.

There are 20 cars in the queue at the exit from Nablus.

9:10 a.m.

The pedestrian roadblock: the plants have been taken away.  There are 15 people at the exit from Nablus, 2 checkpoints plus the humanitarian one are open.  We monitored a young man - he spent 6 minutes at the roadblock.

9:23 a.m.

There are 15 cars at the vehicle roadblock.

Abed el Rawaf Abed Ibrahim Bani Shamsa, approached us; he was in prison in Israel and was released 6 years ago but since then he has been unable to obtain a work permit.  We suggested he approach Sylvia Peterman.

Naim Awad's father from Salem village approached us and told us that every time he crosses the roadblock he is detained and harassed.  He said that he had had a visit from MachsomWatch, we called the DCO with no results, we suggested that he call Sylvia Peterman.
