16.50

Anabta – We stop the car before the red sign indicating that from there on it is Palestinian territory. A soldier at the road block quite far away waves both hands indicating that we should turn back. We remain in the car. He walks up to us saying that we are not permitted to park this close. We point at the sign telling him that only from there on is the territory closed to Israelis. He: “And are you Israelis?” Before we understand his question and have time to respond his commander comes up and takes him away.
Since there are only a few cars passing through without being stopped, and since the soldiers came up to us (instead of us approaching them) we remain in the car.

16.55We leave.

On our way out through the “Te’enim Gate” at Jubara we are asked to show our ID cards. These are soldiers from the reserve forces, so maybe they do not know the procedures.  I tell them that we have been passing through this gate for years and this is first time our ID cards have been requested. The answer: “Those are our orders.”
We should check, but whom can we turn to and who will give us an answer?
