Morning

Atthe Eliyahu crossing we see Palestian workers waiting to cross over to
work in Alfei Menashe and do not stop. At Qalqiliya there are no lines
and the checking is quick. Cars only are delayed for a few seconds. An
Israeli woman waits to take a sick Palestinian child to Rambam in
Haifa. She is not attached to any organization, just a good woman.

Azun…both
entrances are open. At Izbit Tabib is an army jeep on the hill left of
the road. At Svut Ami we did not see anyone at this illegal
settlement but it does not mean that there is no one inside. At Anabta
(Einav) 9.55 – 10 05 on the way back from Beit Iba, Cars in both
directions pass almost freely. Two soldier chat and sign to cars to
pass (without the movement of a finger heaven help a Palestinian car
coming forward). The man selling coffee at the carpark 100 metres from
the checkpoint tells us that yesterday he brought fruit to sell at the
crossroads as from the coffee he does not make more than 20 shekel a
day. The soldiers did not allow him to do so because this is trading.
How much can one man bring through in his two hands.

Saparan.
The entrance to the village which has always been closed since our
coming here is open. We did not stop to watch and we also saw no
Palestinian car passing. What does this mean. Road 557 between Einav
and Jubara is no longer an apartheid road?

Jubara.
10. 20 At the entrance to the village is a problem. Can Hamdan our
driver enter. The commander phones to find out and we go in. At gate
753 is no one and the soldiers do not even get up. At A-Ras (farm 8)
it is hot and there is an atmosphere of siesta. Only one car entered
Tulkarm. Zigzaging between the stones on the road and without being
checked. On the other side are cement barriers between the two lanes
and most of the road is without shoulders and the cars have one wheel
on the road and the other on the side.
