About 40 men are waiting to pass. Those
with the "right" papers, showing Nablus residence, go
through with apparently no age restriction. However, others are
turned back. The new unit are inexperienced, and (therefore??)
strict. E.g., a car with a family possessing a "passage
permit" are held back, even though they are told of the 8 hour
trip it took the family to get there from Hebron. A DCO
intervention helps. We are told of two incidents earlier in the day
of these young soldiers hitting women attempting to pass with their
children. The shift commander claimed that the woman raised her arm
to hit a soldier after being refused passage. Another woman we met,
55, told us about being hit by soldiers a week earlier. We urged
her to file a complaint.
