A not-too-hot day, and no military
presence whatsoever. Just two huge piles of dirt and concrete and
building debris, about 2 kilometres apart. On either side of them a
tangle of yellow taxis and transits, in between them men and women,
old people and toddlers, walking at a leisurely pace this direction
or that. Some entrepreneurs with carts on wheels, for carrying
people or loads, but most people walking and carrying their own
loads. It is a beautiful spot, marred by the blockades and the
misery they bracket.
