Abu Dis was very quiet. Toward the
university, under the trees where soldiers had sat guarding sat a
Palestinian very peacefully. But barbed wire has been added to the
blocks so that people cannot go through...still one woman managed
to squeeze through a crack. We helped a mother and her daughter
over the wall. The mother works at the home for the old there, and
comes that way to work each morning. They were amazed that we were
Israeli Jews. At the gate everything seemed quiet. The soldiers
were not aggressive. Some said they were a good group, but another
complained that they had closed the gate for two hours earlier that
day. As we walked down towards the petrol station, suddenly saw the
soldiers started running and the jeep speeding up to the gate. The
soldiers had their rifles on the ready and as they ran past us they
shouted that there had been a terrorist attack in the centre of
Jerusalem (bus 14). One shouted "Are you happy now?"
another “These are your friends".
