Abu Dis, 6:30am. 13 detaineesinfo-icon sitting
against the wall near the gas station. The soldiers said they were
there 15 min. - the Palestinian we managed to ask from afar said 2
hrs. At the beginning there were 5 BP's. Some minutes later another
group around the same number joined. They asked us to clear away,
we were disturbing them, holding a camerainfo-icon and all. The soldier
refused to give his name or number. The commander wouldn't order
him to do so. Meanwhile, another detainee was taken out of the
newly joined BP car. His cell-phone was taken away from him,
allegedly since detained people are not allowed to make any phone
calls. But it was given back to him some minutes later. Meanwhile a
regular traffic police arrived, checking passing cars thoroughly
(engine, gas, and all). A TV crew passed by and the camera-man had
his upper half body leaning out of the window - they received a
citation from the traffic police for this...

As formerly reported - the upper gate has been closed with a cement
block and the Palestinians are sometimes allowed to climb over it.
Checking is done towards both directions. Most of the people
passing have blue IDs. The checking was mainly smooth and the
soldiers reasonable. One of the former transit drivers was caught
for illegal driving within Israel and has a trial due in Jerusalem
in September. He needs a lawyer. Can anyone help? Coming back, the
number of detainees had grown to about 20. When we left, (8:40)
they were being released slowly. Most were made to give
fingerprints. One of them was handcuffed and was taken to the Jeep
where his handcuffs were taken off and he and the soldiers were
suddenly very friendly. A collaborator?
