Rihan, Shaked, Sun. 02/07/2006 AM Observers: Sandra R., Leah R. (Reporting)06:10 – 09:00 Rihan CP, 06:10 An encouraging beginning. On the “Israeli” side about 30 people who were allowed to work on farms in Israel are waiting for a ride. All of them are smiling and wishing themselves and us that things will be ok.At the gate on the Palestinian side 10 people are waiting. Everything is routine. In the Palestinian parking lot a few Transits with goods are waiting and another few are coming in. Two drivers, residents of East Barta’a, with all the required permits, are not allowed to go through. The soldiers said that those are the instructions of the GSS and they did not want to say any more. At the humanitarian office, they said that these are indeed the instructions and the drivers should try later, or tomorrow.Shaked CP 07:30Relatively lively traffic; among those going through there are children who want to visit relatives. Four children who come from the side of the seamzone, are not allowed to go through to the West Bank. They do not have the appropriate permits, but they do have grandparents who live on the other side of the fence. A woman from Ar’ara (near by Arab-Israeli village) with a babe in arms is waiting on the Palestinian side. She has a blue ID card, her husband is waiting for her on the “Israeli” side, and she is not allowed to go through. They send her to the CP at Jubara, which is far far away. Her pleas and ours did not help; the soldier telephoned and asked for permission to let her go through, but to no avail. Rihan CP 08:15The drivers who were not allowed to go through are still waiting. Four children that we met at the Shaked CP are trying their luck at Rihan.09:00We left. We wrote down the phone numbers of the drivers. At 18:30 the drivers were allowed through(!!). The children also got through at Rihan.Who benefits from making trouble for people?
