Afternoon

Ar-Ras

14:00 – We arrived while the shifts were being replaced. We inquired about the "apartness" [a ban that stops residents of a particular West Bank area from traveling to another], and after explaining the term to the soldiers, we got the answer, "as usual".

There is no traffic congestion and the inspections are brief. Recently one can even see two taxis waiting for passengers at the entrance to Jubara.

Anabta

14:35 – Soldiers wearing helmets are at the checkpoint. No inspections at the entrance and only random checks at the exit.

What is the term the army uses now instead of "apartness"? Here we are told that people can leave the area of Jenin but they cannot come back. The soldiers explain this to those who leave.
