Huwwra, Saturday 17.6.06, AMObservers: Ora A., Batya, Hanna B. (reporting)Translation: Hanna K.An almost uneventful shift – which only emphasizes to what extent the CPs became fixated and the occupation became a routine. Horrible!Today, no as on the previous Saturdays, we did not encounter any roadblocks. On our way northwards there was no traffic load at the Zaatara/Tapuach Junction. At the entrance to Nablus there is a very lively traffic. Tens of men, women and children pass without being checked. At the entrance from Nablus the passage is continuous but the checking is “thorough”. A girl-soldier checks the men – to prove to you that there is no end to humiliating inventions. With the instrument in her hand she “strokes” the men – including their genitals. Some are required to perform the valse and open their trousers. On the other hand the women are checked by men.We saw many young boys and girls who passed.Cars pass at an acceptable speed – but there is no bus traffic.A young man and his elderly mother, holders of blus IDs came to the CP to get a homeopathic medicine from a lady-doctor in Nablus. The doctor arrived at the northern side of the CP and the young man went up to her and collected two little bottles with the medicine. When he came back he was requested to pass through the CP and was detained because “he entered Nablus”. The police was called. Again and again we asked when the police patrol car would arrive. Finally the patrol car with two policemen arrived, one of which was particularly “active”. At the entrance he stopped for a friendly chat with a soldier sitting in a jeep, then he stopped a few young men on their way to Nablus and asked to see their papers (why? after all nobody was checked at the entry to Nablus until his arrival?) and in the end he released the young man and his mother “just like that”. All this took almost two hours. What for? While he was still “dealing” with the “dangerous suspects” his eyes fell on two Palestinians who went up the path leading to the quarry – “the red light” lit up in his eyes – here is an opportunity “to make history” and to catch two dangerous infiltrators – who were checked and released immediately. Halleluya! The “humanitarian queue” (what is humanitarian about this queue?)was active all through the shift. An elderly lady who tried to bypass the “humanitarian” queue and collapsed from exhaustion halfway was forced to get up and return to the queue. Old and handicapped persons – and there were quite a few of those – also stood in the queue. We blushed with shame! The soldier from the Liaison Administration was hostile and completely inefficient. The Palestinian who had met Tal and had told her that they tried to convince him to pass a knife, in order to check the soldiers’ alertness, came up to us and asked whether we had done anything in this matter. At noon there was a queue of about 15 cars at Zaatara/Tapuach from north to south. We saw no queue from west to east.
