Anabta
Anabta, Monday PM, 5 June 2006 Watchers: Niba D, Yona A (reporting)Anabta Checkpoint, 15:55 North of the watchtower stands a taxi and, alongside it, seven youths and the driver. Cars pass in both directions after a brisk check. A bus full of people traveling towards Tulkarm passes without any delay. In answer to our question about the youths and the driver, a soldier says they are being detained because they are “wanted” and are waiting for someone to come and take them. The sun blazes down – a particularly hot day.16:05 – the soldier calls one of the youths who had been sitting by the taxi. The boy approaches and collapses. The soldiers bring water and tend to him. They take him into the shade. The boy recovers and listens to the instructions as a soldier tells him that he must meet with “Avichai,” the officer, precisely at 09:00 tomorrow. The soldier writes it out in Arabic on a piece of paper and also gives him a note to deliver to Avichai. The boys and the driver are released. They say that they were four hours in the sun. The soldiers say it was one hour and twelve minutes. The soldiers apologize, and say that they would have put them in the shade had it been possible.Stuck to the door of the station are three pieces of paper. One is an old and familiar letter from the Israel Police relating to the behaviour of MW women, the second – printed in colour and decorated with flowers, is a thank-you note to IDF soldiers, while the third is a photo of a small boy and a handwritten letter, thanking the soldiers who guard him in the Einav settlement.
