Anabta, Sunday AM, 4 June 2006 Watchers: Racheli M. and Rachel A. (reporting) 08:00, Anabta The traffic flows in both directions and there are not many cars waiting. The soldiers stop each car and one of him pokes his head into the car while singing in the loudest voice he can. We observe what is happening and then the sergeant from the other side calls us to move on. The sergeant talks to us, and claims that the way we are checking what the soldiers are doing behind their backs gives them a bad feeling, and that as a result, there may be outbursts of anger against the Palestinians after we leave. He suggests that we act in a more pleasant way, that we should bring coffee and cake and then everything will be so much nicer. We listen and nod. A car with a driver, a woman and two young girls who are not their own daughtersis not allowed to pass, as one of the girls does not have an ID and is not accompanied by either of her parents. The driver waits as we phone to check with the IDF Moqed [“Focal point”, that has a hotline for passage problems]. After about 15 minutes they are allowed to pass even without the ID, and the soldier says, “It is not because of the women of MachsomWatch.” Posted on the wall of the guard tower is a 2004 proclamation by a captain of the policewhich explains to soldiers how to behave toward the women of MachsomWatch if they should bother them in their work.8.40 — We go back to Beit Iba [see report under Nablus].
