Rihan, Shaked, Sunday, May 7, 2006, AM Observers: Lea R. and Hanna H. (reporting)06.40-09.30Rihan, 06.40The workers that have already gone through report that the pedestrian gate was opened on time. At the vehicle CP there is a civilian police car. For the time being, there is no passage for vehicles in either direction. We were told that there were some maneuvers. At 06.50, the police car left and the slow passage of vehicles began. Women workers from the textile plant who have gone through the terminal are waiting for the car that will take them to Barta’a. The car could not get through until 07.20. At the CP and in the terminal there were two older reservists, or volunteers, who were hostile toward us. One of them pretended to be representing the brigade commander and apparently called the brigade headquarters, following which we were forbidden to leave the ‘sleeve.’07.30 Shaked The gate is open, there is no queue and the passage is orderly, but very slow. The children are allowed through one by one and every once in a while their passage is halted in order to let adults go through to the seam zone. Let’s hope that the pupils got to school on time. Rihan, 07.50The women who work at the textile plant have now driven off and the passage of vehicles is back to normal. The transfer of goods is also conducted as usual. Again we were forbidden to walk around in the area of the CP; we were told only to stand at the edge of the sleeve. During the 20 minutes in which the commander told us about all the things we were not allowed to do, the passage of vehicles was delayed. (Was there a connection? Are we to blame?)Fourteen cars waited in a queue for passing from the West Bank to the seam zone. At 08.40 the passage of vehicles was renewed. The passage of pedestrians in both directions was conducted normally the whole time.
