Shaked, Rihan, Saturday,February 25, 2006, AMObservers: Rachel H, Sarit A (reporting)07:15 – 09:3007:15 ShakedThe gate is still closed, and there is no one to ask why that is so.At nearly 07:30, a Hummer and another vehicle arrive. The gate is opened and the schoolchildren run through, without the soldiers stopping them to check. A group of adults also passes through, but we didn’t see how much of a check there was. A number of women pass after a brief check. We did not want to intervene lest we slow the process down.08:00 – Very few cars. It seems as though every time we arrive there is less and less traffic. Accordingly, the size of the place and the hopelessness of the terminal are very obvious. A number of the contractors were making bets: the terminal only opened at 07:30.A new Nahal battalion is at the checkpoint; they still say “shalom” to us. Today the atmosphere is relaxed, and there is a feeling that those going through are also more relaxed. They go through in groups of ten, and we didn’t notice any detainees, though of course we could not see what was going on in the terminal; but we did not hear any complaints. While we were there, we saw no attempt to transfer goods.
