Ar-Ram, Qalandiya Mon. 22.08.05 p.m.Observers: Hava B, Noa E, Lizi, Tova S (reporting)At the Ar-Ram checkpoint, a Palestinian ambulance waited the arrival of an Israeli ambulance for back to back transfer of an infant with St. Vitus’s dance to a Jerusalem hospital. The procedure was carried out through the auspices of DB. After a half hour’s wait, the ambulance arrived and the little girl was transferred, accompanied by her mother and grandmother. The Ar-Ram checkpoint was quiet with almost no pedestrians and few vehicles. There were no detainees. We travelled to Qalandiya and were shocked to see a new piece of the wall in the direction of Tora Bora from the traffic circle. The section was built in a day and a half. There were a lot of trucks which led to a traffic jam. On the northern side of the checkpoint, two new fences created a concrete path whose purpose we could not make out, nor was it clear where it was leading. The peddlers who eke out their living on the northern part of the checkpoint were driven away and in that area, there are taxis. In the road that parallels the checkpoint, there is once again full activity of the peddlers some 5 meters from the checkpoint. We can sum up by saying that the whole area is a conglomeration of fences, filth, walls, and security towers.
