Al Khadr, Sheik Sahed (Jabel Mukaber), ETzion DCO
Sunday pm, May 1st Al Khadr, DCO Etzion and Sheikh Sahed – a part of Jabel Mukaber Observers: Judith S and Ronny P (reporting)AL KHADR We agreed to meet at the fruit shop next to the intersection of Gilo and decided to drive first to the DCO . Judith heard on thre radio that there was some shooting and injuries in the Al Khadr village so we decided to go there first. We spoke to the drivers who introduced us to some guys who are neighbours of the family whose son was injured. We found the house and spoke to the uncle. It is the usual story that the MP enterd the village, some kids threw stones and then they shot anyone who was runnning. This 14 year old was running to get away. We gave the uncle the Moked card and thanks to Judith’s elementary Arabic managed to tell them who we are and encourage them to call the Moked . In the evening we spoke to the father and he said that the boy was operated on and is OK.ETZION DCO As expected, even the Mimona festival is a reason why the Palestinians would decide not to come and, indeed, the police window was closed and there were 2 people. The man who spoke to us was very frustrated because he keeps coming there to get his fasmily “unification” approval finalized but the DCO claims that the Ministry of Interior hasn’t notified them while the Ministry of Interior insists they did. In times when noone succeeds at this immense project of living together with your wife in a place you choose legally this unique success of this man is still not the end of the story . He has a lawyer so that one can only hope that he will finalize it for himSHEIKH SAHED The story of Sheikh Sahed is similar to the story of Waallage but somehow more shocking. We heard about the upcoming Supreme Court hearing from a friend and decided tp “learn” the story of this village.Sheikh sahed is a section of Jabel Mukaber but in 1967 the Military government chose a day when the fate of many jerusalem residents was decided. In this case whoever was shopping in Jabel Mukaber became a blue ID holder and those who were at home in Sheikh Sahed became a green ID holders. In the years of the last Intifada there are only Palestinian Authoruty citizens resident in Sheikh Sahed. People left homes and moved to Jabel Mukaber where the fields, the cementary, the doctors, the schoool and most relatives are located anyway. The village is perched on a hill and it’s a very steep descend to go down to the valley leading to Bethlehem. The whole area is just breathtakingly beautiful- villages nestling on hills and green valleys in between. Of course, if a man from Shekh Sahed walks down the vally on his way to Bethlehem (because there is no other way to get there)- any MP patrol, any hellicopter can decided he is a terroris and shoot him, stop him and interrogate him. People are prisoners in their beautiful village. At the moment those who have permits to work in Jerusalem go through past the rocks that separate the village from Jabel Mukaber. The wall will make that impossible, too and the journey past the gate and all around will take 2-3 hours. We met some people from the village and heard this story. This morning we got the phone number of the village commitee who are intersted in having TV and journalists present on Friday when the Supreme Court judges are coming to see the village. The village,by the way, has never been involved in violence and they want only not to be totally cut off from their parents, sisters, services, cementary etc.. We left with a very heavy heart. This tragedy is happening next door to my Talpiot home I chose after making sure it’s within the Green line….
