Jubara 22.1.2004 Watchers: Chana U. (reporter), Rina D.,Rachel H.,shlomit K.,Nurit R. We arrived at 14.15 on this cold and dreary afternoon. At the checkpoint, three women from Kalansua and their small children are trying to go to Tulkarm to visit their husbands there, which they apparently do every two weeks. They are refused. By "general orders" no bearers of Israeli IDs are allowed passage.Six men are detained for illegal entry. They have been waiting for 50 minutes. We called Kamil from the DCO [Civilian Administration office]. He suggests that the women try to enter through the Taibe checkpoint. Rina and I take one of them and her three kids to the Taibe checkpoint. A higher-ranking IDF reservist (lieutenant) is helpful and lets them through. The other two women and children manage to get a ride there and apparently (we checked on them later on) are also allowed in.Back at Jubara: the detaineesinfo-icon are still waiting, so is a young man from Jubara trying to get back home. He has all the necessary documents but is being detained. Since the soldiers are evasive and most of them hostile, we call Kamil again. After about 20 mimutes, a jeep arrives. An officer talks to the soldier at the checkpoint, and a few minutes later all the detainees are released. We left an empty checkpoint at 16.30.
