Jubara checkpoint Monday morning 4 Jan 2004. MachsomWatchers: Miki F., Alona C., Yudit A.(reporting), a guest. 8:30, Jubara checkpoint: There are bulldozers all around, marking the territory and building fences (?). The place has been under "closureinfo-icon" [passage prohibited] for 5 days now.The soldiers say today’s order is for "closure with some consideration" [permeable].Humanitarian cases, doctors and students can go through. Schoolchildren are on vacation; the university-level students have 2 weeks of exams. Some women students want to show the soldiers their exam dates. When we arrived there was a lot of traffic in all directions. One young man had been detained for 10 minutes; while we were there 2 more were detained. All were released after half an hour. With one exception, the soldiers were relatively polite and somewhat flexible, especially with women and children. People without permits were “politely” sent home.Within an hour the checkpoint was virtually empty.
