E-Ram: 8.00am- Smooth pedesterian passage, long queue of vehicles, but moving quickly.Qalandya:No checking northbound pedesterians. Vehicles checked quickly. Not many southbound pedestrians. People with no permit are sent back, except for one case when the female soldier let two older women from one family pass without permit and took the IDs of the younger members of the family (all women), promised to check without delay and to let them pass even without permit once found 'clean'. A nice example of independent judgment. Alas, the female soldier didn't adopt the same attitude toward another family: grandmother, 2 daugthers and grandchildren from Nablusreturning from Ramalla. The grandmother, an assertive woman, argued that she had passed from south to north without permit, so they should let her pass again in the opposite direction. The soldiers replied that the board on south of the checkpoint says, in Arabic: "Those who go north must have a permit to return". Apparently the woman didn't see the board, but she was not allowed through.
