When we arrived at the wall there were two jeeps: 1 of the Border Police and 1 of the regular army. The army officer, Ran, approached us with a big smile and was very friendly and said that he wants to be in touch with us. "You can always call me" he said. The meanwhile, people were crossing over the heap of dirt. Suddenly, the B.P. with the commander Guy Israeli started to block the way on the other side of the wall by pulling the barbed wire across the pedestrians path and where a small market had been put up. Our friend Ran was watching it (as we did) quite helplessly and could do nothing to prevent it. The B.P. explained that "it is an order from above" and "we are following tha law". It came as a surprise after listening to Ran talking about real improvements coming soon.At the University, the gate is open but we understood from the keeper that the army threatens not to let a free passage there or else the keys will be taken away from them. Only students are allowed.Upon returning to the wall, we saw that the Palestinians had put some boards over the barbed wire and the flow of people resumed with the border police watching. That's consistency for you!On the way back, near Gat Shmanim, there was a border police checkpoint examining transit drivers and passengers.
