When we arrived at Abu Dis, we were approached by two young workers from Hebron who had had their id's taken from them about a half hour before. However, since there were no border police around, they didn't know what to do. After some time, a border police jeep sped by, but didn't stop. By this time, the men had been waiting an hour. We called the Moked, but were told that they could not do anything until the men had been detained for at least 3 hours. We went up the road to where there were several border police and asked the driver of the jeep what was happening with the confiscated id's. We were told they were being checked and would be returned in 10 minutes. About a half hour later, the jeep came tearing through the street, travelling at least 60 k.p.h. We then called Safadi, reported the number of the jeep, and he told us the men would be released immediately. About 20 minutes later, three border policeman approached us and the detaineesinfo-icon, filled out the paperwork, and let the men go. It should be mentioned that the Arabic speaking border policeman who did the paperwork behaved in an exemplary manner. At the same time, note should be taken of the driver of jeep number 22522 who is a menace on the roads -- in addition to being a singularly nasty individual.
