There were no border police or soldiers at any point from the Rockefeller junction to Abu Dis. At Abu Dis itself, there were three border police standing at the point of the wall at which Palestinians cross over, and another border policeman across the street. Everyone passed through without any check. Four photographers took pictures of the people climbing over the wall with no interference whatso from the Border Police. We then walked up to El Quds university and crossed over to the other side. There were very few people around and very few transits. We walked over to the field to cross over the way the Palestinians do. There was now a border police jeep there and a singularly hostile, angry b.p. who randomly checked people coming over. His manner was offensive and rude, and we could detect no rationale to his often singling out middle aged men, dressed up for the holiday, while allowing younger men through without difficulty. A young man with a blue i.d. approached us and showed us the bruises and scars on his face. He said that he had been beaten last Friday by a border policeman (whom he later identified as the hostile bully mentioned above). He produced a document from a kupat cholim testifying to the injuries he suffered. We gave him the number of the Moked and told him to register a complaint against the policeman.
