E-Ram: everything went smooth. Soldiers uninviting. Asked us to get out of the way, even though we were not in their way. Kalandia north, the going went smooth. In the car line there was a long wait and the soldiers did nothing to make it faster, but they were not too unpleasant. These were young soldiers. At the pedestrian line the soldiers were older and smiling. The line went fast and smooth. Tora-bora - were buttonholed by one of the illegal passers there. His poor English did not make it easy to understand what he was saying. It seemed he was going to a job only a few yards beyond the checkpoint, but did not have the legal permit to pass. It seems his job consists in monitoring the Jewish settlements and their expansion on Palestinian land. there were no soldiers to catch the illegal passers nor was there an attempt to inspect the taxi passengers as we reported here last week. When a jeep with some soldiers did arrive, they let the young Palestinians go and left immediately.
