As a result of the elections, there were very many regular soldiers at the crossing point and not only border police. They checked carefully the movement of the Palestinians, particularly in the direction of Jerusalem.People were forced to climb over the wall at the northern point. At the University the gate was locked and here, too, people had to climb over the wall. This was a very humiliating sight.Despite the presence of the soldiers, many people managed to cross into Jerusalem, while the soldiers ignored them. A Mufti who refused to climb over the wall was allowed to come via the gate by the border policemen. On the whole the soldiers behaved in a humane fashion.
