There were no people being detained, in fact there were no soldiers near the wall. People were coming over freely (but not without great difficulty). We stood at the wall helping people come down the steps, mostly women with children and elderly. Spoke to taxi drivers and they told us they have to check everybody’s identification before they get into their vehicle and feel that they have become police. They do nonetheless for fear of losing their car and license. We were also told by the same group of men that on Sunday morning and Sunday evening somebody fired gas canisters over the wall for no reason.
