We made several inquiriies about whether or not there was a curfew, and each time received a different answer. At last, we heard from one of the border policemen that formally, there is a curfew until 11:00, but it was not adhered to. In principle, passage in a westward direction is forbidden, but they tend to be "lenient". Some people without permits are allowed to pass while others with blue i.d's and permits are sent back. In most of the cases, the behavior is rude and no one bothers explaining that the curfew will end at 11:00. There were 12 border policemen, among whom there were 5 women. El Khadr: There were 5 soldiers from the engineer's brigade in a jeep. Behind the checkpointe were dozens of people who had heard on the television that the curfew was ended. When the people saw us, they moved forward in hope that something was about to change. The soldiers were very concerned about maintaining order and some started to shout and threaten them. At last, we were able to explain to those waiting that they would not be allowed to pass through.
