Morning

Beit Iba - 8:40
On the way from Anabta to Beit Iba we saw a worker collecting garbage at the side of the road.  How pleasant to see some normal work going on!

At the entrance to Beit Iba there was no line.  The many pedestrians passed in both directions very quickly.  A taxi driver told us that he had waited in line on the way from Anabta from 6:30-7:40 and, at about 7:00, there was a line of about 100 vehicles.  Perhaps it would be a good thing to check the situation earlier in the morning.

At the checkpoint we were happy to meet a group, a man and 2 women, from Switzerland belonging to the program "EAPPI, Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel" from the organization of the World Council of Churches.  Members of the organization are from 25-70 years old, from 10 countries.  Those we met were part of a group of 25 people who had come to Tulkarm for three months.  They go out to the checkpoints three times a week when there are a lot of people;  they also do educational and welfare projects.  In addition, they visit Israel and the settlements.

A youth who tried to bypass the checkpoint was detained and Yael was told that he would be released after 2 hours of "punishment, even though there were no other charges against him."

9:20 - We left.
There was no line at Jabara.
