Morning

Habla:
06:00.  Gate is open, but still no one crossing.  Two minutes later passage begins, and by 6:09 the first quintet has gone through.
The queue is shorter than usual.  Every 2 minutes a quintet advances. Anyone carrying anything has to empty the contents on the counter of the checkpoint for inspection.  A youth whose head was covered by his hood had to return and be checked again.

Around 6:30 carts pass in both directions.

07:00.  After a lull of several moments, about 20-30 people arrive. Vehicles wait on the sidelines.

07:13.  The van carrying teachers waits while they are checked.
07:25.  No one waiting any longer.

We leave so we can make it in time to the next point.  Just then, 7:29, the van with schoolchildren arrives.  The driver is tense, wondering if he will make it in time.

Abu Salman (Beit Amin):

07:53.  Dozens of people on the main road, after having passed the barrier separating them from their fields.  They have a long, winding uphill road still ahead.

A Palestinian vehicle arrives, and more people crowd inside than there are seats.  Another vehicle picks up those who have begun the climb.  The driver makes a point of telling us he is taking the passengers free of charge, to help them out.

People tell us that they come from all over:  Azzun Atma, Siniruya, Abu Salman, and more.  They cultivate hyssop, olives, and some vegetables.

The soldiers photograph us.

08:10.  Nobody waiting, and the soldiers lock up the yellow metal arm that prevents passage.
