Afternoon

We returned to Qalandiya after taking a break at Etzion last week.  It took us an hour to drive to the CP through the horrific traffic jam in the southern square (it looks like we will have to park on the Jerusalem side from now on – just the piles of broken glass near the parked cars, witness to broken windows, kind of put you off).  The soldiers never opened the Great Gate in the Wall yesterday.

There were not many people in the entrance shed to the CP yesterday afternoon, and none of the peddlers were at their stations.  Two passageways were operating with lines of more than 20 people in each one.  (The semester break at the institutions of higher learning in Ramallah is over and the students are back.)  Fortunately, both passageways were operating efficiently and the wait was no longer than 15 to 20 minutes.  This was lucky because it was bitterly cold at Qalandiya under clear skies with no clouds.

When we left, Natanya phoned the candy peddler to ask how he was.  It turned out he had a bit of flu, nothing very serious.  Hope to see him next week.
